Playoff baseball and softball continue to bring the chaos
The GIST: Today’s the calm before tomorrow’s Super Regional softball storm, but baseball’s conference tourneys are already raging. Pack your rain-delay poncho and let’s slide in.
⚾ Baseball: Similar to the gals, all but one (hi, Big West) of the 30 DI conferences host an end-of-season tournament, where a title earns a ticket to next week’s NCAA regionals. Those who don’t win are still battling to impress the selection committee, who will announce the natty’s 34 at-large teams at Monday’s 12 p.m. ET bracket drop. In other words, it’s truly do-or-die.
- The Ivy League and Patriot League have already hoisted their trophies (congrats, Penn and Army!). The remaining 27 tourneys are either already underway or will be within 48 hours. And if that’s not exciting enough…
- The wildly unpredictable SEC is already embracing chaos: Unranked Texas A&M ousted No. 13 Tennessee in a 3–0 upset last night and will take on No. 2 Arkansas this afternoon. Bama Rush–level drama, loading.
🥎 Softball: Hopefully you’ve recovered from last weekend’s regional pandemonium because Super Regionals wait for no (wo)man. Two of the eight best-of-three series begin tomorrow when No. 3 Florida State hosts No. 14 Georgia at 7 p.m. ET, followed by unseeded Oregon at No. 6 Oklahoma State at 9 p.m. ET. Flip on ESPN2 to catch ’em — even more web gems await.
