🏀NBA: The Lakers picked up a 110–98 win over the New Orleans Pelicans yesterday, but it wasn’t enough to help them avoid the anxiety-inducing play-in tournament. They’ll face scoring champ Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Who came up with this sh!t anyway?

  • While the defending champs compete for a spot in the playoffs, the four-seed Clippers will enjoy some time off before playing the five-seed Dallas Mavericks beginning Saturday. It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

🏀Sparks: While the NBA season is nearing its end, the WNBA is just getting started. The new-look Sparks struggled in their season opener, falling 94–71 to the Dallas Wings. But with four-time champ Seimone Augustus trading in her sneakers for a Sparks’ clipboard, the squad is in great hands.

⚾️Baseball: Behind a wild homerun from Shohei Ohtani (because, of course), the Angels pulled out a 6–5 win yesterday, avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Boston Red Sox. Meanwhile, the Dodgers couldn’t break out the brooms, dropping yesterday’s contest with the Miami Marlins, 3–2. You win some, you lose some.

  • But the biggest baseball news of the weekend was made off the diamond. The Dodgers signed future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols, who was just released by the Angels on Thursday. How’s that for drama, Hollywood?

🥎Softball: No. 2 UCLA is heading to their 37th (!!!) NCAA tourney thanks to their record-breaking 11th Pac-12 title win over the weekend. Pitcher Rachel Garcia was named Pac-12 player of the year (for the third time) while coach Kelly Inouye-Perez grabbed her second Pac-12 coach of the year honor. Put some respect on their name.
