Seven unseeded teams punch their ticket to next weekend's Super Regionals
The GIST: The regional dust has settled with a mind-blowing seven unseeded teams upsetting their way into next weekend’s Super Regionals. We’ll have a full preview for you on Friday, but first, let’s process Monday’s pandemonium.
The upsets: TCU ate their Wheaties! The unseeded Horned Frogs clinched the Fayetteville regional in stunning fashion, demolishing every team in their path (including the host squad and sentimental sad bois, No. 3 Arkansas) by at least eight runs. Looks like the road to Omaha now runs through Funky Town.
- Two other unseeded underdogs advanced with Monday dubs: In Conway, SC, Duke staved off a No. 10 Coastal Carolina resurgence to survive, and Southern Miss battled against elimination through four straight monster wins to take the Auburn regional.
The chalk: It wasn’t all chaos, though — No. 5 LSU, the country’s top-ranked team for most of the season, sailed through their regional thanks to their MVP, Dylan Crews Bucket Head. As for No. 2 Florida, No. 8 Stanford, and No. 12 Kentucky, they narrowly escaped being upset by posting bold back-to-back wins in their regional finals. Dance on, fellas!
