The GIST: We were expecting some big-time Round of 16 drama, and yesterday’s action did not disappoint. While all four No. 1 squads booked quarter-final slots, yesterday saw two Big Ten teams suffer upsets.
- Despite finishing their regular season on an uncharacteristic four-match losing streak, No. 3 Ohio State bumped No. 2 Minnesota home last night. What turned their win into sweet revenge? They won 3-1…the exact same scoreline that Minnesota beat the Buckeyes by less than two weeks ago.
- But the most shocking result is that the No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers were ousted following No. 3 Oregon’s gritty 3-2 upset win. Nebraska’s season? Officially husked.
What’s next: There’s almost no time to recover before we’re right back in the thick of it: The four quarter-final matches are lined up back-to-back-to-back-to-back tomorrow, beginning with No. 1 Louisville vs. No. 3 Oregon at 4 p.m ET on the Cardinals’ home court.
- Can the Ducks and the Buckeyes keep the upset train rolling? Or will the top-seeded elites book their tickets to the semis? Only one way to find out — time to cancel your Saturday plans.
