NFL Conference championships preview

The GIST: Four teams, three MVP candidates, two Super Bowl berths on the line, one epic doubleheader. Get your game face on (maybe with an assist from Rihanna?) because both NFL Conference Championship games are shaping up to be must-see TV.

NFC — No. 2 San Francisco 49ers vs. No. 1 Philadelphia Eagles — Sunday at 3 p.m. ET

• The fun begins with a battle of perhaps the most well-rounded squads remaining. Former third-string Niners quarterback (QB) Brock Purdy went from Mr. Irrelevant to a household name by going undefeated since taking over under center in December.

• But he hasn’t done it alone. SF also boasts a triple-threat of talent in tight end George Kittle, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and running back Christian McCaffrey. Stacked is an understatement.

• That said, the best-in-the-league Philly defense will be the Niners’ toughest test yet. Not to mention the Eagles offense is flying high with QB Jalen Hurts calling the shots.

AFC — No. 3 Cincinnati Bengals vs. No. 1 Kansas City Chiefs — Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET

• A rematch of last year’s thrilling AFC title game, this all-time QB matchup is dripping with drama. Last time around, Bengals QB Joe Burrow helped his team overcome an 18-point deficit to send them to the Super Bowl. He is the rizz god, after all.

• So, KC — who are making their fifth straight AFC champ appearance — will certainly be dressing for revenge. The biggest question, however, is how their superstar QB Patrick Mahomes’ ankle will hold up after he sprained it last week.

• Can Mahomes conjure up more of his signature magic? Or will Joe Cool & Co. be puffing another celebratory cigar? Can’t wait to find out.
