The GIST: With only eight teams left in each national tournament, expect tighter competition in today’s women’s and tomorrow’s men’s quarter-finals than in the first three yawn-inducing rounds. Here’s hoping for fireworks before Friday’s semis!

The women: No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 Michigan are perhaps the bracket’s most evenly matched teams — they both won their conference tourneys and hold records of 25-4 and 25-3, respectively — so they’ll likely serve the spice this natty has lacked when they meet at 5 p.m. ET tonight.

• Prep that second screen because defending champ No. 8 Texas takes on reigning ITA indoor champ No. 1 UNC at the same time. Texas suffered a few shocking upsets this season, but they’re still a serious threat to the top-seeded Tar Heels.

The men: Speaking of reigning champs, No. 5 Virginia beat No. 4 Kentucky to win last year’s NCAA ’ship…and guess who they play tomorrow night at 5 p.m. ET? It is so on.

• Bitter rivals No. 1 Texas and No. 2 TCU would love to fight for (another) title, but they’re on opposite ends of the bracket and will only meet if both teams make the final. First, they’ll have to defeat No. 9 South Carolina and No. 7 Michigan, respectively.
