D.C.: Free falling

This week from college basketball and the Capitals

🏀Men’s college basketball: Maryland finished their regular season on a sour note yesterday, falling to Penn State 66–61. Despite racing off with a fast start, the Terps faltered down the stretch, allowing the opposition to get back in the game. Not great for the Terps’ March Madness hopes.
- With that loss, they enter the Big Ten Tournament as the eighth seed...and face Michigan State, who just upset No. 2 Michigan. Eek. C’mon Terps, you’ve got to pull yourself together.
- As for No. 21 UVA — after defeating Louisville in Saturday’s regular season finale — the ’Hoos will enter the ACC Tournament as the top seed. Way to close it out.
🏒Capitals: It’s always sunny in Philadelphia for the Caps. Even without winger Tom Wilson — who’s serving a seven-game suspension for the dangerous hit he delivered against Boston Bruin Brandon Carlo on Friday — the Caps beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3–1 yesterday. Plus, defenseman Nick Jensen scored his first goal ever as a Capital. Atta boy.
