NFL: Week 2 highlights
Flying high: The Arizona Cardinals overcame a 20-point deficit to defeat the Las Vegas Raiders 29–23 yesterday. Cardinals quarterback (QB) Kyler Murray tied the game on a two-point conversion as the clock expired, sending the game to overtime, where cornerback Byron Murphy recovered a fumble for the win. We love cheap thrills.
Welcome to the show: The two highest-drafted 2022 wide receivers (WRs) both scored their first NFL touchdowns (TDs) yesterday. The NY Jets’ No. 10 pick Garrett Wilson found the endzone twice, including a clutch game winner against the Cleveland Browns, while the Atlanta Falcons’ No. 8 pick Drake London snuck in from just over four yards out in his squad’s closer-than-expected 31–27 loss to the LA Rams.
Bet on it: Despite a solid effort from QB Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens fell prey to Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, who put together a stellar afternoon of his own, throwing a career-best six passing TDs in Miami’s come-from-behind 42–38 win.
Wounded warriors: The Week 2 injury list is sadly quite extensive, and the biggest name on it is San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance, who was carted off the field after breaking his ankle yesterday, putting an end to his sophomore season. Brutal.
Looking ahead: We’ll be waiting all day for tonight’s Monday Night Football two-fer. First, QB Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills host running back Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans at 7:15 p.m. ET on ESPN in the U.S. and TSN1/4 in Canada. Hide your folding tables.
- Then, Week 1 breakout star WR Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings head east to take on the Philadelphia Eagles at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC in the U.S. and TSN3 in Canada.
