USWNT defeats Costa Rica to reach CONCACAF final
The GIST: And exhale. With last night’s 3–0 semifinal win over Costa Rica, the USWNT is on to Monday’s CONCACAF W final, where they’ll face CanWNT, with an automatic berth to the 2024 Paris Olympics on the line. Okay, time to hyperventilate again.
Last night’s semi: Fresh off betting on themselves with yesterday’s launch of their online store, the squad gave fans plenty of reason to add to their cart last night. Defender Emily Sonnett opened the scoring in the 34th minute with her first-ever USWNT goal and the team never looked back, with Mallory Pugh and Ashley Sanchez adding to the party. Dominance.
CanWNT vs. Jamaica: As for the other semi, while contending with an off-field pay equity controversy, Canada easily handled Jamaica 3–0 last night, setting up a finals rematch of the epic U.S. vs. Canada 2012 and 2020 Olympics semis.
- The USWNT were the beneficiaries of a controversial call en route to their 2012 gold, but the defending gold medalists CanWNT had the last laugh last summer. Full preview to come ahead of Monday’s 10 p.m. ET kick-off, of course. Can’t wait.
