No. 1 Florida State and No. 2 Stanford will play for the women's College Cup title
The GIST: It’s title time! The No. 1 Florida State Seminoles take on the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal in the women's national championship final tonight at 6 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Prep those confetti cannons.
The women’s ’ship: This pair is wildly well-matched: Both the ’Noles and Card have three national titles under their boots, both blanked a No. 1 seed to reach the final, and neither has dropped a match all season. Plus, these powerhouses have experienced champs on their rosters — FSU won their last natty in 2021, while Stanford last hoisted hardware in 2019.
- They’re also dynasties built with brick walls — Stanford has allowed one goal the whole tourney, and Florida State hasn’t allowed any. What’s that about defense winning championships?
- That shutout prowess means the first to find the back of tonight’s net will have a huge leg up, which bodes well for Stanford, who scored two goals in the first four minutes of their Friday semifinal against No. 1 BYU. Game on.
The men’s tourney: Saturday’s quarter-finals filled the guys’ College Cup. The final four? No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 West Virginia, No. 9 Clemson, and the sport’s most audacious chaos-makers, the Oregon State Beavers. Another upset could be in the Beavs’ cards Friday when they play Notre Dame — who needed penalty kicks (PKs) to survive their last two matches.
