No. 5 Stanford and No. 1 Wisconsin pull off five-set comeback thrillers

The GIST: From back-to-back barnburners to huge upsets to (more) record-breaking crowds, the gals gave us everything this weekend. Unclench that jaw and take a deep breath — it’s time to dig in.
The Top-5 tussles: Yesterday was always going to be wild with No. 2 Louisville hosting No. 5 Stanford just before No. 1 Wisconsin visited No. 3 Florida. Still, no one expected two five-set comeback thrillers. Stanford dropped their first two sets, then won three straight to seal the dub — and Wisconsin did the same damn thing just hours later. Unreal.
- These matches marked the nonconference grand finale for all four teams, with only top-ranked Wisconsin emerging undefeated. Now, the country’s hottest squads’ attention turns to conference play — let the chaos unfold.
The jaw-droppers: Stanford’s and Wisconsin’s dubs weren’t the only scores raising eyebrows this weekend: The buzziest upstart, No. 11 Washington State, bested defending natty champs No. 6 Texas, unranked Georgia notched an intrastate dub over No. 10 Georgia Tech, and USC put future conference rivals on notice by defeating No. 17 Purdue.
- And that was just Friday’s upsets! Saturday’s surprise? No. 14 Creighton downing powerhouse No. 9 Minnesota in a five-set thriller on the road. Three days of nonstop mayhem — how lucky (and tired) are we?
