The GIST: The pinnacle of the women’s season, the College Cup, kicks off in mere hours, and by the day’s end, Monday’s national championship match will be set. The men are one step behind (typical), with their quarter-finals set for tomorrow. TL;DR, there’s a lot of soccer (and future pro superstars) to watch this weekend.

The women’s semis: Of the four College Cup contenders, the No. 1 Clemson Tigers have had the toughest path so far, but the road ahead is even more formidable. To reach their first-ever title game, the Tigers must top the No. 1 overall seed, three-time natty champ Florida State Seminoles, who’ve outscored their four tourney opponents 14–0 so far. Yeesh.

  • The ’Noles won both of these teams’ meetings this year, most recently in the November 5th ACC Championship. Tune in tonight at 6 p.m ET on ESPNU to see if third time’s the Tigers’ charm.
  • Just 30 minutes after that match concludes, No. 1 BYU will take the pitch against No. 2 Stanford. BYU’s fighting for a 2021 title-game rematch with Florida State, but unlike BYU, Stanford knows a thing or two three about winning championships.

The men’s quarter-finals: Fire up all available streaming devices, because the round’s most compelling matches both kick off tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+. On one pitch, the tourney’s most daring underdogs, the Oregon State Beavers, face off against No. 3 UNC. If it goes anything like the Beavs’ last game…watch out, Carolina.

  • On the other pitch, the highest remaining seed, No. 2 Notre Dame, takes on intrastate rival Indiana, a historical powerhouse who’s turned a disappointing regular season into an impressive playoff push. Hoosier State scuffle, incoming.
