Who will advance to the men's College Cup finals?
The GIST: As confetti continues falling on the women’s College Cup champ, the four remaining men’s squads will kick off their semifinals tonight, when two previous title-winners, Clemson and Notre Dame, take on final four first-timers West Virginia and Oregon State, respectively. If these matches are anything like the rest of this tourney, buckle up for a wild ride.
No. 9 Clemson Tigers (13-3-5) vs. No. 5 West Virginia Mountaineers (17-2-4), 6 p.m. ET (ESPNU): To start their postseason, Clemson won the nation’s most competitive conference tourney — the ACC’s. Since then, the Tigers haven’t allowed a single goal...it’s giving Florida State’s women.
- Clemson’s ousted two seeded opponents already, while West Virginia’s only faced unseeded upsetters. With a hot start and their trademark tough D, these Tigers could make their second final in three years tonight.
Oregon State Beavers (11-5-5) vs. No. 2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (12-2-6), 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPNU): Despite being the highest seed still standing, Notre Dame was pushed to the limit in the third and fourth rounds, winning both games in penalty kicks. Meanwhile, Oregon State’s a freight train barreling at top speed toward a historic finish. Upset watch: engage.
